I'm building my first desktop PC for some regular internet browsing and moderate gaming, and I plan on using the AMD FX-6300 processor. I'm on a budget of around $800 and I was wondering what sort of GPU I should use. I'm looking in the $150-$250 range. I have no preference over AMD or Nvidia.

^ waste of money. consoles do not have 8gb vram, infact no card on earth has more than 6gb. watch dogs on ultra 1080p only needs about 3gb, and the 270 will not even get close to handling ultra, more like medium.

See the part where it sais 8gb GDDR5.
The fact that we don't have 8gb vram doesn't mean it will all be ok. nvidia and amd are working to fix the problem as new ports will not have enough ram to run properly on the pc because of poor optimization.

One article about this can be found on toms as nvidia is developing a way to use system ram as vram for future cards along with a new interface exactly because of the lack of vram.

watch_dogs eats MORE than 3gb on ultra textures 1080p FXAA! I've actually tested this and my 3gb were all used and the game was freezing because of lack of vram.

I won't hijack this thread so i won't reply anymore but you should get more information before posting.

the 270 4gb version is a total waste of money, that card can only handle up to about 2gb, and there is no point crossfire'ing the 270, it is better and cheaper to get a single 280(X) because most games dont support crossfire, and it has some bugs too.

I have seen Watchdogs use about 3.6Gb vram maxed out @1080p. Atleast thats what evga precision is reporting on my system. I do agree that on a 270x 4Gb of vram doesn't make much sense, unless you use crossfire, but even then you can get a 4Gb R9-290 for around the same price as 2 4Gb 270Xs.
