Is GTX 780 2-way SLI worth it?

Hey guys, just wondering if it is worth getting a second GTX780 for for 2-way SLI? Will my performance increase or decrease? Is it even worth spending the money on it this late in the game? It seems as though the next line of GPU's should be releasing at some point this year. I have heard that SLI can cause some micro stuttering issues and possible framerate spikes, is this likely as well? I am currently running EVGA GTX 780 Classified @ 1200 Mhz on an AMD FX8350 @ 4500 Mhz. I am using an ASUS VG248QE as my main monitor and plan on picking up either 2 more of these or the next step down as I can't run the peripherals faster than 120Hz and I don't really need my peripherals to be running at 144Hz anyway. I mainly will be performance gaming with some other uses as well, I just prefer the best possible performance for the dollar.

Yes, I am thinking it would be a while before I can afford 3 1440P monitors. Would probably want to swap all my HDD's for SSD's first, and definitely go with higher GPU's. I would like to get there at some point but a single 1440P for some games and 5760x1080 resolution for other games is where I will be for a while. Is it really that important to upgrade processor and mobo? I was planning on waiting to see what the next generation of processors from AMD and Intel are going to look like before going up with my mobo and CPU. I don't feel like I have much of a bottleneck from the FX8350 at the moment. I have not used the higher tier Intel processors in years so maybe I don't really know what I am missing?

I only have 2 16x PCI slots on my board so I wouldn't want to run 3 of them. I have been running 6000x1080P and it runs well, about 50-90 FPS depending on games. I think I'll be pretty happy once all 3 monitors are 144Hz. In the meantime, I am going to save up for the new 800 series cards to be released, unless I can find a second of my card for cheap before then. Sometimes I get impatient so this time I would like to wait and see what the next series of intel and Nvidia chips are going to be like. Thanks for the responses!

I am running 3 monitors at 60Hz and was getting around 40 FPS with a single Classified GTX 780. In short, yes it was well worth my upgrade to SLI, especially after the price dropped by 40%. I haven't been running on 3 monitors at 60Hz yet but my single monitor @ 144Hz went from about 68 FPS to now 97 FPS. I can imagine that my former 40 FPS on surround should bump up to at least 55-60 FPS now with 2 cards. Will perform those tests later.

Still not sure why people discredit the AMD FX8350. I might get a possible increase in performance going to an i5 or an i7 4770K but at 3x the price I can't justify a small 5% gain in performance, if that. My CPU @ 4.5 Ghz seems to crank just fine, as far as I can tell I have never had it bottleneck me.
