Hello, Im a heavy gamer who ONLY games on 1080p, I have a amd 6790 HIS one gig and im in the market for a 300-340 $ gpu, ive narrowed my choices to the gtx 770 or the amd r9 280x msi gaming 6 gig, which is on sale for 300 $ (wtf). Now the games I play are Skyrim- HEAVILY modded, gta 4, world in conflict, bf4, farcry 3 and crysis, I would like to max these w/o AA/AF on 1080 and have stable fps that does not go below 30, please help me in my opinion and buying of a gpu.How large of an upgrade are we talking about here ? and THANK YOU for helping me !
PS: I want a non reference gpu, third party cooler !

System specs-
core i5 2400
5** watt psu, 80+ certified (asus or corsair icr)
8 gigs ram
z75 motherboard
windows 7

770 is overall better. R9 280x with 6gb is probably gonna come in handy in the near future. I'd go for the 280x but right now the 770 beats the 280x in most games. Some examples:

Crysis 3 - 770 wins by a lot
Battlefield 4 - 280x wins by a lot

That said you wont be able to run crysis 3 at 1080p @30fps as the 770 barely gets 30 fps

Hmm well, Ill think about it, I can increase my budget to 430 $ but that's it, and yea my psu probably wont be able to power that bad boy XD, I know its 80 + and its over 500 watts, I just cannot remember what model it is, corsair im fairly sure. I will only go for an aftermarket cooler though, I had alot of trobule buying early gpu's with reference fans, oh the hissing and coil whine.

I looked it up, and AMD recommends a standard 550watt power supply for the R9 series. That being said, your PSU is so close and considering the fact that if you don't have the right pins, Molex adaptors are included with the card, I would say go for it. Benchmarking tests show that at full load, an average system with the R9 only draws 372W.

Yea, I think ill buy the r9 290 sapphire tri-x oc'd version, how good of an upgrade that would be from a 6790, BUT can my psu handle it ? Taking in mind the other specs of my system. The core i5 2400 only draws 90-95 watts, but im not an expert so idk ?

the tri-x oc r9 290 is a monster ^^ from the reviews ive read.

Yes, I believe your PSU can handle it (see my above post). You mentioned an 3rd-party cooler, I certainly hope very-quiet isn't something you're looking for, as the r9 290 most certainly is NOT quiet under full-load.
