Is my CPU temp high?

I just changed the thermal paste and cleaned the heat sink on my pc. Its specs are listed in my quote. It is running under full load at 72c and idle around 50c. Ambient temp is around 78 Fahrenheit. It is using the Dell stock cooler and arctic silver 5. Is this dangerous for my $200 cpu? Will it harm it or damage it?

Solution
When your CPU is overheating you will start experiencing performance loss, freezing, crashes, BSODs,etc. That is when you certainly need to improve your cooling system. 64C for Q9650 is good enough

72c for ANY CPU is dangerously close to max thermal limits. Double check to see if the CPU Cooler is seated properly. Also, too much thermal paste is as bad as not enough. Just curious to why you re-applied new thermal paste?

I re applied the paste because I was checking my cooler and I took it off. I thought re-applying would help make sure there was not any problems with the cooler.

Thanks for letting me know. It was a very expensive cpu for my budget and I want to make it last. As far as heat, it is usually never under full load during my usage. Gaming has it up to 64c but thats about it.
