Hello,

I'm Considering upgrading my GTX 550 Ti up to a GTX 780 and was concerned that i might not have enough power. I know it is recommended that your PSU be pushing out 600w and I also know that manufactures recommend more than is really needed. So here is my system, compleat with links:

PSU: Antec HCG-520 M series
CPU: AMD 4170
Mainboard: MSI 970A-G45
RAM: 4 sticks of DDR3 4GB (16GB total)
1 Optical Drive
1 SSD
1 wireless card
1 small card reader/writer

Dont want to put in a new PSU and re-wire my rig if i dont have to... but I dont want to ruin a $500 card even more. Thank you very much for your help

Hex.

You DO need 600W. Get another Antec - a HCG 620M this time. Sell your old one.

It might run, but your PSU probably can't take a load like that for long. I'd recommend at least a 600W PSU for the GTX 780.

Also - that 4170 will choke the heck out of the 780. Get a 8320.

I think that you are asking for trouble. Under-powering your system is just going to put strain on the system particularly the new graphics card. I would upgrade to a 650- 750 watt power supply. I would stay with Antec, Seasonic, or XFX PSUs.

I'd recommend upgrading the PSU and getting a R9 290 instead, the price/performance is better.

I dont understand... my CPU is clocked at 4.2ghz and the 8320 is clocked at 3.5? how is my CPU going to choke a 780?

the 8320 has twice as many cores. It would be like clocking the 4100 to 7 GHz.

Or you could also upgrade your AMD CPU (AMD FX-6300 or preferably better).

What flavor of GTX 750ti should I get (asus,MSI,EVGA,Gigabyte ext...)? Since I have a MSI Board should I get a MSI card?
