I recently switched to a new micro ATX case which required me to get a smaller motherboard. After a clean installation of Windows 7 and drivers I noticed in all games that I played, the FPS would drop to around 30-40 when a lot of action was going on. Even on League of Legends (which I would run with ease before the switch) I would get these drops. I want to say its something with my processor although I'm not sure. I tried playing several games while streaming on Twitch to see if I could get even worse performance and was successful. I also need to note when I was installing the new motherboard I failed to properly screw in a standoff and was not able to power up anything. I thought some of the back i/o ports were shorted but everything is now working after installing the drivers. Could that standoff messed something up? Any ideas appreciated.

My specs:
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L
CPU: AMD FX-8120
Graphics: Radeon 7950
RAM: 8gm 1866 gskill
PSU: Ultra 750 watt
Windows 7 Pro

Are you using the same graphic drivers you were using before the fresh install?

If I remember correctly I was using an earlier driver version. However before the fresh install but after installing the new motherboard I had the same issues.

I also reset my cpu today and reapplied thermal paste. Doing so did seem to make the drops happen less frequently but they are still occurring.

What i can say is that your motherboard or CPU is incompatable with the rest of your parts.
