directories, folders, files disappeared

About 9/10ths of the documents have disappeared from my PC (Windows 7). This followed the moving of directories from C: drive to Libraries/Documents, as advised by a technician. I have searched the computer for three days. Files show up but the short-cuts are no longer valid and I cannot open the files. How do I recover/restore these folders?
