I'm thinking about buying a new video card, i see the value of my gtx 670 is falling and i figure it might be a good time to sell it before it becomes near worthless.

I'm looking at the 770s, 780s, and the newer amd(290x, 280, etc) cards.

i have a preference to nvidia, but with enough convincing i could go amd.

i mostly play video game. i do some small video editing on the side. my computer resolution is at 1440p.

i am finding my 670 doesn't quite cut it at that resolution. i would like to get a 780(non ti version) but the amd 290x has one extra gb of ram for cheaper as well is nice.

How much ram does a person need?

Solution
780ti is the fastest at 1080p and 2k sometimes by a little sometimes by a good amount, 780/290/290x are all about the same speed. Go with the best deal, they are out there.

Depends on the games you want to run. Watch_Dogs is a prime example of a Video memory hungry game. I have a 780 with 3Gb and it still struggles at ultra @ 1080p. With 4Gb and above you should be golden for now.

As I said, with Watch_Dogs in my experience, I would go for 4 Gb memory, but this might be fixed in a later patch (there is something fishy going on with all that video memory). Might be a gamble though, it doesn't run well with AMD cards. DayZ runs badish on most machines in my experience, the rest is fine with 3 Gb i suppose.

Remember: i game at 1080p, and more resolution means more need for memory. So you might still go for the 4 Gb just to be shure
