Hey guys, so I plan on upgrading from my i5-2500k in the next week or so and I've been struggling in which platform to switch to, 2011 or 1150. As for use, primarily it's for gaming but I've been playing more and more CPU intensive games lately (most notably ARMA 3). As well, I've been really into video editing. I'm just not sure if I'd see realistic performance gains with the i7-4930k since the 4790k will certainly have higher clock speed and I 'should' be able to hit ~5.0Ghz on air with it (H100 in push pull). ARMA 3 seems to really like high clock speeds so the i7-4790k is very tempting. On the other hand, the extra cores/threads on the 4930k will come in handy for video editing/streaming and as more and more games start to use more cores.

Suggestions?

I don't see any help here so let me put in my 2 cents. I have 2000 hours of arma 3 under my belt and I have been running a 3570K at 4.5ghz for a year now and I will tell you Clock is the Boss. 2011 sockets will certainly help with the editing and such but is a little over spendy for gaming. You'll end up dumping a good chuck of money on the 2011 rigs do you thier design. They're blazing fast and give you the advantage of quad memory. Conversely, even the 3570K is baller for arma 3, however, a hyperthread 4790K will fly on ArmA 3, at the rate of 15-20% over the I-5 designs. 2011 can gets you more but at a price that can turn people away. Additoinally, 4790K hyperthread chews on editing like bubblegum. Cheers!

simple answer.

2011 Socket = Boss super rig Build!! $$$$$<------ recommended for Make Rain!!!
i-7 4970K = mid-high build out! $$$ <------ recommended for value performance.
