Hello.
Lets keep it simple:
I have a computer in a bedroom and Edifier S530D speakers next to it, but I also have stereos next to my TV on livingroom which are these http://www.thomann.de/fi/m_audio_bx8_d2.htm, so my audio systems are not that cheap.
The current setup goes like this:
Computer/3.5mm - 3.5mm/5m long cable -> 3.5mm switcher box.
3.5mm switcher box -> TV/3.5mm - 3.5mm/1.5m long cable.
3.5mm switcher box -> Stereos/3.5mm - 2x 1/4" TRS jack/5m long.
The deal is that I want to use my computer speakers too when I am playing for an example and there's only one 3.5mm connector behind my computer, which mean I need a some kind of 3.5mm splitter or splitter cable. Does it reduce sound quality with this setup? Can I keep both stereo sets ON at the same time and decide in my computer settings which speakers I want to use or do I need to turn them off and decide which I wanna use?

(I do also have headset but I am using them only in my frontal 3.5mm connector and unplug them back in the closet when I am not using them. We have two cats and one of them likes to eat thin cables whenever it is hungry, so I need to "hide" my cables)
Besides the setup above, I have 3x HDMI going from TV to PS3, PC, Digibox, but that's different deal now and no need to worry about them.
