hey guys, having built two previous gaming builds I was wanting to build a new rig, my old one (the one at the bottom of any of my answers) is starting to show signs of its age and I want to build a new one while utilizing some of the parts from my current build (the RAM and GPU and HDD) but the motherboard, PSU and CPU I want to replace.
having built my previous two without and advice I wanted to get some advice form the gurus on this forum in what motherboard and CPU I should get, ive been looking at another FX8350 but have got the money to get a 9590, I want an AMD build please so no intel although im happy to see comparisons. I was also wondering if I should increase the RAM if im to get a 9590 and a better GPU?

any help would be appreciated and thanks for any replies im advance!

I think the 32GB can be so useful, specially in a 4x8GB quad channel, but you can put in the future 8x8 in that x79 LGA 2011 motherboard. If you plan to do SLI or CrossFire, I would recommend a Corsair AX860 or EVGA Supernova G2 1000W. Also...

Im pretty sure you just can't spend that money in an AMD build hehehe :D In CPU Intel has no comparison with AMD, I would get 4930k and a nice Corsair H100i. For the RAM, 16GB of G.Skill Trident 2400, and an Asus P9X79 as motherboard, something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($578.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus P9X79 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($229.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($221.98 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($132.01 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($172.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1557.94
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

If you really want ONLY AMD, then it should look like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz 8-Core Processor ($322.49 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme9 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($230.28 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($221.98 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($132.01 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($172.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1304.73
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Nice build, but I would get a better PSU for it! Even more if you have that budget :D

sir, I think you missed out on the graphics card, and why get 4x4gb memory when you can get 4x8gb. xD

He said he was using his GPU, I think! If not, a pair of R9 290 would be awesome :D

ive been having problems opening the link in your answer as my internet has been off and on in terms of reliablility recently, probably time to get a new router as well, but I did have a look on partpicker and come up with the following:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Kj3Zzy

please bear in mind that I do a lot of video editing and running of virtual machines using hyperV in windows 8 on my current rig

Well the problemw ith the fx 9590 is that it uses a big amount off power (however it doesn't use it full 220w tested and comfirmed) so if you really wanted that level off performance a core i 7 should do the trick or even an i5 (oc'd a bit off course) a cooler (if you don't want to go expensive) i reccomend is the sycthe mugen 4 pchc edition super silent and good (this is for the i 7) if you where to go for a fx 9590 (get a 9370 instead its a lot less and hits 5 ghz np) a dual rad watercooler will do. For a gpu i reccomend the r9 290(x) or the gtx 780(ti) the cheapest one wins. 8-16gb of ddr3 1600 mhz will da for the motherboard a would personaly go with an extreme 4 990fx and for starge i would go for 2 256gb ssds in raid 0 (recommendation is the 840 evo) and a 2 tb hdd for random storage a case would be if you want a nice look and silence the nzxt hd440 or fratcal design define r4 if not a cm 690 is a good case for its price. The psu should be a 750w + and be from a good brand an modular is a reccomendation. Thats it i think anyways glad i could help

I think that PSU won't work in that build, check this:

I added a better PSU, the best GPU for nice resolutions: R9 295x2, also changed the RAM from 1866 to 2400, and also added a nice SSD.

Intel build:

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£83.88 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard (£239.98 @ Dabs)

I was just wondering if the power usage and gain in Mhz are worth it? I completely agree with the PSU and the RAM but would an overclocked 8350 use less than the 9590?

Well at value/performance I think your best bet is 8350, but with that budget you can afford every AMD CPU :D But for your use, I think you would appreciate a 4930k when you render your videos, consider it!

If you do lots of video editing, the 32gb of corsair platinum ram would be perfect. With hypertreading, the i7 4770k would be a better choice for video editing, etc.

this is an i7 4770k build (perfect for video editing and etc.)

now that you mention it the hyperthreading in Intel chips would certainly give it the edge over the AMD Chips as well as in gaming although the extra cores in the 9590 would be useful.... maybe an I7 4960x extreme for £700ish (£666.66) on the BT business direct website

For that purpose I really recommend socket 2011 over 1150. That means 6-core CPU and quad channel for RAM. The most stable motherboard is Sabertooth x79 and the best processor is 4960x but its soooo expensive; a 4930k is a better choice money/performance.

OK so my intel build would go:
Intel i7 4930k
16GB RAM
Sabertooth x79 (which socket is this Motherboard)
4TB HDD WD Black series
Same graphics card as in current (if compatible)
and an 800watt modular power supply

anything missing?

so heres my intel build vs my AMD build:

Intel:

intel i7 4930k
Asus Sabertooth x79
32gb RAM 1866Mhz
Corsair AX680/EVGA Supernova G2
should I splash the cash on a GTX titan for both?
corsair H100i cooling (both builds, if compatible)

AMD:

AMD FX8350 OC'd /FX 9590
32GB RAM
4GB MSI FTX 770 / GTX titan (if compatible)
4TB WD black series HDD + 500gb Samsung SSD
Asus Sabertooth 990FX
Corsair AX680 / EBGA Supernova G2
both have their good and bad points but with the amount ill have left in my budget ill probably go with the GTX titan if its compatible with the boards PCI slots
Also are the PSU's modular?
