Hello so i have just recently bought a new laptop with the following specs

Processor : Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40 GHz
Graphics : Nvida Geforce GTX 870M
R AM : 24GB <-- ram was free don say overkill
OS : Windows 8.1

So i know NOTHING about overclocking or temperatures , but i know how to check the temperatures and such.

So my question is is around 70-90 Degrees a good temperature for my Graphics card to have when i game? How about a good cpu temperature for this cpu too?

Thanks in advance!

While under load, your graphics card should be around 70-80 degrees

@_Epix_ I did notice that when i did not run my gpu fan at full speed, or in fact overclocked while playing at all the temperature was around maxed at 90 But constant at 79-90

However if i overclocked it and ran my gpu fan at full speed, it was around 69-81 did not hit 90 at all.

Is this safe?

as long as it does not hit over 100 degrees, there will be no problem :)

Its a laptop. You need to run the cooling fan fast and use a laptop cooler. You shouldn't overclock laptops. They get too hot and use too much power.

Don't overclock your components on laptop that much. Safe temps for GPU are 90C. Keep an eye on your GPU's temps while under load/stress.
