Hi,

I have a HP 6530s(Core 2 duo) laptop. It has 2gb ram(1gb transcend+1gb hp).
I've got a problem with Windows operation system(All version win 8,7& XP), The problem started by suddenly shuts off while it's in use. Later the same situations started occurring frequently. So i thought it's a OS problem and tried with different versions of Windows OS. After the completion of windows installation, it shuts off again. Couldn't start windows. I installed Ubuntu and fedora. Both are working fine. Don't know why linux is working fine and windows having problems. I've been using ubuntu from last 6 months and didn't find any issue of sudden power off.

I went through many forums and lot of search but no use. Couldn't find the solution. I even went to hardware shop and the hardware engineer told me it's a mother board issue. But if it is a mother board issue why linux is working fine.

Somebody please help me on this issue.

Thanks
Babu

Solution
Chances are it's hardware related, with laptops it's often the video card, maybe some other motherboard issue.
The reason it runs in Linux is because the Linux drivers for the system do not utilize all of the features, so the hardware is not stressed or does not use the bad sections.

I am thinking if you try starting Windows in Safe Mode, that may also work.
have you tried 32 and 64 bit? Also i might be your hard drive as i have had this issue with 1 pc to windows xp suddenly stoped to function but my ubuntu installation worked fine. I changed the hdd (i was going to do it anyways) and suddenly windows worked fine again.

Hi Jaslion,

Thanks for your response. I tried both 32 and 64 bits. I tried with XP,Vista,Windows 7 and Windows 8. Even I did kill my HDD with DBAN software to clean the data and tried fresh installation. Nothing worked. After installation of Windows its power goes off and sounds like tuppp... But i didn't try with HDD change installation.

Hi Hang-the-9,

Thank you very much for your response. It seems you almost clear my doubts. Yes it was working in safe mode. But now i couldn't even install any windows OS. At the time of finishing installation, It shuts off. One of the hardware mechanic told me it's a mother board issue. He told me that he changed mother broad and it's working fine then.

Do I need to change my mother board or small repairs of broad will fix the issue? Are there any other reasons that causes issue?

Please give me your suggestion. Thanks in advance.

If they replaced the motherboard it should have fixed things unless they used an old motherboard or the issue is somewhere else. Maybe RAM, maybe hard drive, it's most likely the motherboard though. It's very hard to repair a motherboard, unless it's something simple like a power plug solder that's needed.

Thanks much for your valuable time and good answers. Now I've got some clarity on this. So Linux doesn't use/load all drivers unless it has to. That is why it is working fine. If it uses problematic sectors then we'll face the same situation even with Linux operating system.... right??

Thanks again...
