Hello guys,

I am planning to replace my parent's PC that is reaaaly outdated. Their configuration is from around 2001-2002.
This would be sort of a present to them on the second half of the year.

For them probably even the cheapest used computer is an upgrade but I still want to get one that is properly built BUT still not for more than £100.
It can either be a refurbished older PC or buying it from parts. No peripherals needed.

Usage - internet, movie, light photo editing (photoshop elements), light gaming (think of Popcap or alike)

What would you suggest for a low budget used computer that would meet these criteria?
Any particular website should I look at?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Any particular reason you would go for a laptop rather than a desktop?

well there are plenty of places where you can buy used or refurbished comptuters. sometimes even for less than £50.

Couple of examples after some googling:
Lenovo A61 Athlon x2 - £99

HP dc7900 - £100

Dell OptiPlex 755 - £99

Dell OptiPlex 780 - £85

Dell Inspiron 531 - £99

The point here is to upgrade a 13year old system that will do a decent job, not to buy a new one.

but parts would be fine also. It doesnt have to be an assembled PC. (so in that case motherboard,CPU+cooler,RAM,PSU,and maybe video card if its not integrated)

well what would you expect from a 7year old construction :)
those were the first examples I found for refurbished desktops under £100, its not like the final list I want to choose from.

I havent looked into it too much but do you think buying it in parts is a good idea? for some reason I find it a bit more risky.

also I found an interesting one

After more digging I found that the best option would be the HP Compaq DC7900 SFF (Small Form Factor).

Its quite decent for the price:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0Ghz
Memory: 4GB
Hard Drive Capacity: 250GB

Condition: Fully tested and functional, with only a few minor cosmetics defects.

Price: £75

It even have 1 month warranty.

Anyone else have a better recommendation?
