I have two dedicated T-1's and when I run a speed test I consistently get 2.85 up 2.5 down and 23 ms ping. However when I try to access a web page it takes so long that frequently the connection times out. When I report it to my service provider the simply refer to the speed test and tell me everything is the way it should be. Ideas?

Get a new service provider?

Try the same web pages on the machine of a friend who has a different provider. Ideally, take your machine over there and try it too. If both tests are quick, something between the server at your provider that gives you very fast connectivity and the rest of the world sucks.

Are these business lines? Do you have a Service Level Agreement? New lines, or did the problem crop up recently?

Finally, if these are business lines, consider that your company's firewall / other security may be contributing to the problem.

Yes, it does seem to be a problem at the providers server. Yes, it is a new problem. Yes, they are business lines but the service level agreement only addresses the speed of the t-1 which is fine_1 . My problem seems to be that I cannot convince Century Link that they have a problem. I don't have the technical knowledge to convince them. T-1's I understand, Internet I don't.

If their pipes to the outside world are too slow, get bids from other service providers. Preferably ones with an SLA that covers more than their-server-to-your-modem. Do you have the option to do this?

No I don't. This t-1 was an upgrade from satellite (the only other choice) and was fine for the first 8-10 months.

If it's really in their pipe to the outside world, and that's really not covered by your SLA, then you may be SOL.
