SLI is something I've never done before. I always thought that if I used SLI, it had to be the same exact card. I read a few places that said that's not always the case. Can someone shed some light on this for me. I planned on getting another 670 FTW. But if I could get something better, why not do that?

More about : plan sli gtx 670 ftw

As long as it is another 670, it doesn't matter what make it is or what VRAM size, but if you have a 4GB and 2GB card, the 4GB will only use 2GB to run with the other card

What exactly happens if both cards have different clock speeds?

They'll still both work

faster card gets slower.

if you sli go for another card with the same 4gig ram.

before you spend the money think about whether it's going to really be worth it. imo it's not. done it several times. was always a waste of money.

money spent on card could go for something else you need or want or wanted.

I agree. Best sell the 670 and try for something like a 770

So I'm supposed to spend extra money to get 5-6 extra frames? I don't call that upgrading.

If you were to add another 670 (highly assuming your CPU won't bottleneck, and that your PSU can support it), you'd get anywhere from ~10 (assuming newest games, as thee are no benches for 670/SLI for these titles) to a ~ 60 FPS increase.

A GTX 770 will get you anywhere from 50-80 FPS Ultra, maxed and at 1080p. Depends on the game.

I would hardly call SLI'ing worth it. Hardly any games support it and games that do would suffer from microstutters. It's so much better just to get a good single card than two worse cards in SLI or Crossfire

It wouldnt be worth going from a 670 to a 770, it wouldn't be a very big performance increase.

first thing you have to ask.............. what problems are you having and with what and at what resolution to make you think you need to sli? if it's just a fps thing put your ego in check. fps is a big myth to a certain extent. i use a 2gig 6950 for almost all of my gaming. i have no complaints. .......... unless it's some online stuff.......... whereas you need to look at the program offered ( uplay/etc. ) and what that does to retard gameplay......... off line there are no problems.

Have you actually used it? Tons of games use it, Nvidia come out with SLI profiles within days of games being released, do you know of a modern game that doesnt support SLI but would benefit from. Also Nvidia got rid of microstuttering in SLI.

That's what i'm saying. My 670 is like a 680. Just another reason not to get a 770.

I agree. My 670 is alike a 680 as well. It just doesn't make any sense.
