Hello,

I installed a new Seasonic S12II-520W power supply and the GTX 550 ti from my previous computer in my current computer 2 days ago. I noticed a smell coming from the psu (and still do, but not as much) which I would describe as a new plastic smell, unlike the burning smell that I noticed from my previous computer before the psu died. I have read that some PSUs can smell quite strongly when new and wouldn't be too concerned if it weren't for the fact that my computer has frozen when under load twice in two days now. It's interesting, because the computer had managed to go many hours under load a couple of days ago after first installing stuff, but yesterday and today has frozen when under load (and froze after less time under load today than yesterday).

The other thing to note is that the gpu was in my old computer. The psu blew and took the mobo and cpu with it but the gpu seemed fine (I also took it in to a shop to get it tested by someone else who also thought it was okay) but perhaps there is some kind of problem.

I don't know if this is heat related, because the seasonic is fixed so my tiny case (the one that comes with the asus k5130 uk016s prebuilt) is pretty cramped with all the bulky cables.

Just in case it is the PSU I've taken a screenshot of HWmonitor after about 15 minutes of stressing the system: http://i.imgur.com/GTolAuJ.png. The voltage readings are [CURRENT] [MIN] [MAX]. A final note: I did have to remove one of the ram DIMMS to get the damn 24 pin connector out of my mobo (those things are nuts...) and getting the DIMM back in was a little tricky, so if no one can see any problems with anything else I guess I can go after that.

To summarise specs: i3-3240T, Seasonic S12II-520W PSU, GTX 550ti GPU, Asus k5130 h61 mobo.

Have you overclocked your GPU?

Have you updated all the drivers in your system? Are you sure that the problem it's GPU because the same can happen with an old HDD

The only thing I've taken from my old rig is the GPU. The HDD is the one that came with this new prebuilt.

Do you have warranty for the GPU? Maybe the old psu damaged the card and cannot function properly

Not any more. I did notice in the windows event log it says Video Hardware error, corresponding to the freezes/crashes. So to clarify, those voltage readings I posted look ok? I suppose I could try stressing the PC with prime95? If that doesn't yield any problems it would point towards a problem with the gpu I suppose? I used furmark and the temperature of my 550ti shot up to 75 celsius before a blackscreen which required a hard reboot.

With this error I suppose you must find a new gpu. Maybe the old psu damaged it so it cannot function properly
