Hello
this is an old desktop that I sued for work and although it is old it works fine. Last week they changed all the IP addresses in the building so I just needed to restart my desktop, easy right?
except that it never restarted.
I get the BIOS page
BOOT MENU F10
BIOS Settings F2

I have tried pretty much everything but no luck
HDD is not dead since I was able to save all the data
once in a while a get the screen with <start windows normally> or safe mode
or last know good configuration
I have tried all the options, but no luck, it always comes back to the front BOOT page, sometimes the computer searches and searches and go back and forth between bios and boot and then nothing happens.

I tried putting windows CD and boot from there and then I get the same error message over and over: an unexpected error (1609826304) occurred at line 1768 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\arcdips.c.
press any key to continue
and nothing happens after that

I also tried to unplug everything from the motherboard and only leave HDD connected only but same error.

I am running out of ideas, so please if you have any send them my way
thanks a lot!

Can you select boot menu to see if your drive is an option. Sounds to me like your drive is going south.

yes I can go to the boot menu, I see the drive but for some reasons computer wants to boot from CD
that's why I unplugged all peripheral and try to force from the drive
I have another drive with windows XP, and I tried to boot for this one but nothing happens either.
any clues?

If it sees the drive highlight it to boot from and see what happens. Your xp drive will be of no help.

i see the drive in the BIOS
I can select it to boot on the HDD first
but then nothing happens

the reason why I think the HDD is not dead is because I was able to plug it to another computer to save all the data

Try a different port and or cable. When you say nothing happens..what does that mean? Black screen flashing cursor?

ok so I am trying other ports on the motherboard as well as another cable
when I say nothing happens in fact that's not true, it is just that it never goes to the next level:
computer tries to boot up several times, i can either the back screen flashing cursor, or either the page windows safe mode options
but none of those options get me to the boot up

now because I changed the cable, it is stuck on the CD?DVD not found...so I might have to replug this one

ok I plugged CD?DVD back
now I do not get that message anymore
computer goes in between 3 screens:
gateway screen (with F2 and F10 options)
back screen flashing cursor
and then the screen with the safe more option or start windows normally
each screen stays for about 2 or 3 secondes and then computers tries again and again
until it gets stuck on the gateway screen

so what do you think?
also should I plug HDD as external on USB port instead? would that work better?

No it will not. I still think your drive is toast. Sorry...everything dies in the end.
