Hi,

I recently purchased a copy of GTA IV (PC) from a pre-owned game retailer, I tried installing the game only to find that at the point where it asked me to insert the second disc my computer could not read the disc. I checked on my brothers and dads computer with no luck either. I have the serial key and was wondering if there was any legal way to install the GTA IV Disc 2.

I live in the United Kingdom and all pirating websites are blocked :o

Any ideas?

take it back to the game retailer and exchange it for a good copy of the game. Bad discs are a defect and they must take it back and exchange it. If they won't, complain to your local trading standards office.

Mention that it is not fit for the purpose it was sold for. That's a good legal term to use. :)

Thanks, I think that is what I will have to do. I am going to wait and see if I can get an answer before this weekend and if not take it back then. The only problem is that I am not 18 but I do have the receipt will they still be inclined to exchange/refund the disc?

your age does not matter. If you have a receipt they have to sort you out. If they won't, take your Dad with you and ask him to mention "trading Standards" and "Fit for the purpose" when he talks to the manager at the shop.

Don't download a cracked copy of the game - often those are loaded with malware and it's a generally bad idea.

Thanks again,

I think I will do that, (I am not allowed GTA IV so I don't think taking my dad along would be a good idea :/ )

I realised I don't have the receipt anymore but I do have the labels still on the box... do you think this will be enough?

GTA 4 (18)

Or I could trade it back in again for £10 but I would have made a loss

I was just about to say this, go to Steam (desktop client) then on tool bar at the top click "Games" > "Activate a product on steam..." . Type in product code and if its valid it'll be added to your steam library.
