Should I get an i5 4670K

Hi I have a G3420 in my system with a sapphire HD 6870 and want to know if a 4670K would make a great difference to gaming performance? If so around how much better would it be and is it worth the price for the performance increase? Thank you

If you play a lot of MMOs, you'll probably notice a big difference. And you'd be ready for a GPU upgrade down the line as well.

I-5-4690K should be available for the same price in about 3 weeks with a slightly higher clock and turbo-boost. Basically the same chip, but updated.

Yeah wait the couple weeks for 4690k, it will be ever so slightly better at stock but should be a much better overclocker, all for the same price

I have an asrock H81M-DGS R2.0 but looking at z87 boards since the price's are getting lower, might go for the asrock z87 extreme 4

I would go with this then. You get i7 4770 performance for less.

Getting the xeon is a bit high, does it matter that my motherboard is h81? Does this mean an i5 wouldn't perform as well as it would in a z87 mobo?

H81 is a little on the lower end, but it technically should support a Xeon, which would likely be your best option. You can't do any overclocking with the Xeon, or your H81 board. The Z series boards allow for overclocking, just as the K series Intel CPUs allow for overclocking. So pairing an i5-4670k with an H81 is a waste of money as you won't be able to overclock. That is, unless you plan on buying a Z87/97 board in the future, then it could be worth it. But for the most part, the Xeon will do just as well as the i5.

Your board is a fine fit for the Xeon. You have one of the better H81 boards. For the money, you are best off going with the 1230v3. Keep in mind that new motherboard often means new copy of windows as well.
