Is this okay to connect my ESD Bracelet?

So I'm going to be building my first computer this week, and I am putting quite a bit of money into it so I decided to purchase an ESD bracelet. Now I'm curious as to if this location will work or if there is a better one. I had a wood desk, that on the side supports has metal pieces, will those be okay to attach it to?

Also I've read a bunch about connecting it to the case, but does that mean before I can place the motherboard I must attach the PSU and plug it into the wall? Thanks for the help.

All you have to do is to be voltage-neutral (potential-neutral) to the objects you are touching.

You can definitely ground yourself to the case. Of you ground yourself to the steel legs of the table, then you will have neutralized your potential to the surface the table touches - probably the carpet.

I have a mat that I put on my work surface and I just ground myself to that or the case. I've been lucky so far for maybe >10 years. :)

Okay so does that mean I shouldn't connect to my desk? The legs are these, they aren't made out of metal. They just have a metal knob to tighten that piece together, you can see it in the picture. What I was going to do is just connect to that since it would be grounded to the wood desk. At least that's what I believed.
