i am replacing my stock cooler and i need to clean the thermal paste is it okay to not use any chemicals if i can get it all off without any

Pure 99% isopropyl alcohol is not really "chemicals". It's recommended because it evaporates and actually leaves no chemicals or residue of any kind. It's the only way to get a truly clean antiseptic surface for optimal heat transfer. It's really cheap too.

It is necessary to use something to clean the old goo off and there are citrus based based products available.
