So i recently bought a new gaming computer and decided to test my cpu for fun and see what temps i would get, i ran intels stress test that only took like a min, and 2 of my cores went as high as 93c and rest between 88-90c, i was using CPUDI HWmonitor to see temps

should i return the cpu ? when playing CSGO for a few hours my max temp on cupid gets to about 70-72c

and yes the stock fan is properly mounted, its on there like a welded piece of met

Thats insanely high, and close to ruining your chip I think. Are you OCing? If so, how much vcore are you putting into the chip?

If not, something is really wrong. It might not be the chip though... What kind of thermal paste did you use? Are you SURE you mounted the CPU fan correctly? Also, a stock CPU fan blowing air on the chip won't do too too much if the entire case is not propertly ventilated - whats the rest of your cooling set up? I assume you have a rear exhaust - do you also have a front pull in? What about a top exhaust or side intake?

I've built a few computers, but I am not the authority. Hopefully someone else will weigh in too.

I will say I OC'd my i5 2500k to 4.5ghz, and I only hit 50C at full load, and thats after it stabilizes (like a few minutes). Hitting that high in a minute is ridiculous.

Hi

Was the temperature monitoring software on the motherboard driver disk?
Did the CPU speed drop as it was throttled.
Did you rely on thermal material on heat sink or add extra ?
Or clean off and put extra thermal material on ?

If you shut down after test and immediately go into bios/Uefi bios see what temperatures are shown

What fan profile do you have in bios or software
Is CPU fan speed being shown as well as temperature?
Is it at maximum speed?

Are you using internally graphics chip or a pci-e graphics card ?

What about other case fans?

Intel's stock heatsink can't handle IBT because it's peak test segments are a 110% workload. Prime95 Small FFT's is the accepted standard for thermal testing because it's a steady-state 100% workload.

Please read the link above. It explains how to properly run a thermal test and will give you an understanding of processor temperatures.

OMG, i just tried the prime95 small fft's and my cpu acording to Real Temp shot up to 98c in matter of seconds :S should i ask Intel for a new cpu ? , becuase the heat sink is properly installed, im 110% sure of this, and it does spin amazingly, something must be very wrong, i used the thermal paste that comes with the stock cooler

Its so wierd, because my idle temps are around 35c

I know you're 110% sure, but I have to say it anyway ... check the back of your motherboard to ensure all four push pins are pushed all the way through their mounting holes. This can be very deceiving because they can look like they're really through when one pin isn't, so use a strong light and look very carefully comparing each to it's neighbor.

If one push pin is not completely through, the cooler won't be evenly seated on your processor. This is by far the most common problem for high temperatures with the stock cooler, or any cooler using this push pin design.

Regardless, before I would condemn the processor, I would install the inexpensive Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. I'm sure this would solve the problem.

im planning on getting a better cooler in 2 weeks for overclocking, right now im idle at 33-35c and get around 70c as max when i play games on full setting for long periods of time

but using the prime95 small fft makes it shoot up to 95c in like 30 seconds ... strange :/

oh and yes i did open my case and reinstall the stock cooler and made sure i pressed 2 pins at the same time diagonally and made sure i heard the clicks and that the pins were even on the backside

Hi! i did the test and got 65c on 2 core's, 61 and 63c on the remaning 2 cores

im guessing this is acceptable ?
