Slow Download speeds on custom pc

So I built my gaming pc about a year and a half ago, and my download speeds were correct (im paying for 100Mbit, and I was getting around 95Mbit). But now, all of a sudden my speeds have dropped to as low as 5Mbit, and in some cases as low as 2Mbit.

Strangely, dispite this being the best PC in the house, its also the only PC having issues. I have another wired PC downloading at 102Mbit most of the time, and even my wireless devices getting up to 40/50mbit.

I've done the usual checked the driver settings and all is correct, reinstalled drivers even and still no effect, The cable isn't to blame as i've tried multiple cables (including the one my second pc is using) and still no difference. There are no settings in the router that have any effect, even tried setting a static IP and activating a DMZ containing it. I eventually put it down to the Network card being debunk, so i replaced it and was getting speeds of 107 to 110Mbit all day, untill this afternoon where i returned from work to find my speeds have dropped back to 5Mbit, im at a loss with this one, any help would be greatly appreciated

You have never specified what hardware is on the other end of the cable from the computer...
The other avenue that hasn't been investigated is what OTHER devices could be using all your available bandwidth?
Neighbor "borrowing" WIFI with torrents?
Some other of your devices with a virus using all the bandwidth?
Cloud backup doing a sync?
Can you watch the LEDs on the router and see if your network traffic REALLY get quiet or not.

Have you done any changes to the system? install new program recently?
Download/install Tweaking.com Windows Repair (All in One) tools, run it and skip Step 1-4, click on Start Repair tab and click Start. Click Yes to created a restore point (this will takes a while), a Registry Backup in progress will appear on your screen, wait til this screen is gone click on Start button again, then the Repair Options will display. Unselect All and only Select:
- Repair windows firewall
- Repair hosts file
- Repair winsock & dns cache
- Repair proxy settings
Click Start and wait then reboot, try your speedtest again.
Hope it helps,

Tried the software as suggested, but unfortunately had no impact.. however i did notice that my disk writes in the system monitor was randomly shooting up to 40+MBytes per second, and i wasn't doing any HDD demanding tasks? Could this be a possible cause? As I know that disk write speeds can bottleneck downloads.

I Appreciate your help with this

Might be an auto-sensing mismatch. In the "Networking" tab of task manager, make sure the "Link Speed" column is displayed (via the View->Select Columns) and is the value you would expect (100Mbps or 1000Mbps depending on the other end). Run a DOS cmd and do "netstat -e". Are there a large number of Errors/Discards? Usually a different cable will correct this problem, but I would do these two simple tests.

Hi Kanewold, Had a look and the link speed is at 1Gbit (as it should be) and in netstat there were no errors or discards.. I also switched the link speed in the local area connection down to 100Mbit and the change reflects correctly in task manager also
