Hey people!

I recently built a rig I've attempted to use two optical drives and they don't work. I can't even open the tray to insert the mother board boot disc.

I have a really old CDROM that I tried, it works (PC asks to insert boot cd) but the tray doesn't open. I'm wondering if it's a compatability issue but I've already checked pcpartpicker and it seems to be fine.

Processor: AMD FX 6300 6 core 3.5 GHz
Motherboard: M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Video Card: AMD R9 270 XFX
Extra PCIE cards: Asus Xonar DSX audio card
PSU: Corsair cx500m
HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL SATA 64MB 1TB
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Optical drive: LG WH16NS40 Internal Blu-ray Writer - BD-R/RE Support - 48x CD Read/48x CD Write/24x CD Rewrite - 12x BD Read/16x BD Write/2x BD Rewrite - 16x DVD Read/16x DVD Write/8x DVD Rewrite - Double-layer Media Supported - SATA/300 - 5.25" (WH16NS40)

This is really frustrating seeing as I work from home and I'm losing money as the days go by. I appreciate the time you take into helping me.

Thanks,
Bonatrick

I am going to presume that the WD is a sata 3 device.
Therefore it should be connected to one of the blue sata connections of the mobo.

The BR writer may only be able to support or run on a 2.0 speed Sata interface.
So I suggest you connect the sata cable from the drive to the board via the white Sata ports as they should support 2.0 devices.

You will have to go into the bios of the motherboard also because the board has two sata control chips so both must be enabled.

Also make sure you have sata power provided from the psu to the drive.

I suspect it is because you are trying to run a 2.0 device on a 3.0 Sata port though.

I tried all the white Sata ports, no luck. I unplugged it and tried my old one again just to see if I didn't connect anything properly and it works fine but the tray is broken.

When I plug the new models, there isn't a light.. It's as if it doesn't obtain power

As for the bios, I've enabled both still nothing.
