Have an Acer laptop with a GeForce 750M GPU in addition to the onboard Intel HD 4000 that Haswell CPUs provide. Owned for about 9 months now, nvidia optimus has done a good job switching between integrated graphics and GPU when needed for at least 6 months. Recently I just noticed that the 750m was not kicking in while running games/high graphic demand software.

Tried to update nvidia drivers after uninstalling them, but the install package did not recognize any hardware. Checked device manager, the 750m was hidden (greyed out) under display adapters. Ran CPU-Z and only the integrated GPU was detected. Checked the BIOS for PCI options, couldn't find any. Then I uninstalled the 750m through device manager (at the suggestion of the internet...) and it disappeared. Didn't reappear after a reboot, and trying to install the driver package did nothing. Safe mode doesn't change anything. The 750m drivers on Acer's website are just an old version of what you can get off the nvidia website.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't know when exactly it stopped working, so I don't know what date I would system restore from. Can still try.

Thanks in advance!

The Nvidia Gpu will or should require more power to run.

On some laptops it is not engaged due to the fact that the laptop battery can no longer hold or provide the current it needs to run.

If it is 9 months old this could be the case and why it was grayed out in device manager if you were just running on the battery alone.

So if you were try connecting the charger to the laptop.
The battery has had nine months use and charging, so its ability to hold a full charge may not be enough for the 750m chip to be powered.

Set your power plan in windows to high, and connect your mains charger.
see if it picks up the 750m chip then.

I usually have the laptop plugged in. Changed mode to high performance, still nothing. Could it be named something else in device manager?
