Which 500W PSU? They are not all created equal. And there's no problem with the card actually fitting. If there is (1) enough room for the length & width of the card, and (2) the motherboard has a PCIe X16 slot, it will fit. Since you already have a gfx card in the slot and the card you are buying isn't any longer or wider, of course it will fit.

But if you are asking if it will WORK, that is a different question. Yes, it should. The only reason it would not is (1) if the motherboard BIOS is so old it doesn't recognize the newer cards. Not likely, but it sometimes happens with OEM PCs. And (2) if your PSU is too weak or cheap.

Decide on which R7-265 you want to buy, then find the length of it in the specs for the card. Or tell me and I'll try to find it for you. Then simply open your case and measure from the expansion slot cover at the rear to any obstruction the card would hit.

But if this is your PC: http://www.computershopper.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/media/images/gateway-dx4840-153/646942-1-eng-US/gateway-dx4840-15.jpg
...I don't see any issue. You have at least the width of the MB and probably more. It looks like the PCIe X16 slot is just low enough that even a super long card would fit under the drive cage.

this looks very similar to my pc infact it is my pc. I want to buy the sapphire r7 265 which is about 22.6cm while the ati 5570 than came with my pc was 17cm. I am confused if it will fit or not. Also one more thing I found today was that the r7 265 is a dual slot card which I do not understand. can u tell me what it means?

Splendid

it means the card is twice as thick as a 'normal' single slot card, so the heatsink will block the slot below the slot the card is installed in. Dual slot cards are pretty much the norm in mid/higher tier graphics cards, some monsters are even 3 slots thick

Yes, the card will take up 2 expansion slot openings and block off the use of the slot next to the PCIe X16 slot.
That card is less than 9" long. If the pic above is your MB, the the R7-265 won't be any longer than the width of your MB. Probably less.

If you are still looking for a 500W PSU, check out this selection. Any of them will be good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007657%2050001459%2050001516%2050085693%2050001919%2050001697%20600014066&IsNodeId=1
