I am planning to get a new card since some of the newer games won't even let me choose ultra settings without 3gb+ vram. For my budget, I am currently considering either a gtx 780 or a r9 290x. Some of the videos I watched on YouTube shows pretty bad frame rate for 290x due to driver issues such as its performance in Watch Dogs, so I am a little hesitant about it.
But which card do you guys recommend in general?

My current spec:

8350 oc'd to 4.6ghz
EVGA 750B 750w PSU

Well let's start with some facts. AMD has their goodies like mantle and such but from my point of view AMD isn't nice to game developers. AMD Cards are roughly cheaper than Nvidia cards but are less efficient than Nvidia cards. AMD cards also run hotter at least lately. That being said you can go ahead and get the 290X. Take note though alot of developers are using Nvidia GameWorks, hence the reason AMD cards are under-performing on games such as Watch_Dogs.

All in all I'd thing the 780 is a better buy if you're gaming at 1080p. However the 290X can prove useful with that 4GB of VRAM in certain situation and task managment

The best deal is the 290 it can easily overclock to 290x level and is cheaper.
Geforce work better on some games while amd work better on other but most of the time they have similar performance or receive patch to boost performance after the game launch.
