Recently i have been having unpredictable black screens of death. The only thing i can gather s it happens the most when running a random game, but then again, most of the time I'm on the PC i am running a game. At first i thought it was my hear, but the head of the pc is fine.. i even checked the heats in the thermal monitor after crash.. let me get further into detail.

I will be on the pc and it will simply go black on both monitors. The PC is still on, the HDD is still being accessed, the CPU still crunching data, as shown by case lights.. But no visual. The graphics card seems fine, and all my drivers have been updated..

As i have searched and searched i find many people having the same issue.. But many have one thing in common that i do not.. The CPU fan speeds up for them, but not for me. The bad part: I recently replaced my CPU, the problem started after.. Naturally i thought it was heat.. I know the CPU is not bad as it was in a different computer and worked just fine, for an extended period of time (( months, not a single issue))

To get it working i have to press my reset button on the case. I have checked event viewer and "windows 7 manager" But they offer nothing other than "windows shut down unexpectedly"

I never really see this cpu get above 112F on either core.

Here are some specs.

XFX 680i LT SLI Motherboard
Core 2 Duo E8500 (( AS5 as paste, paper thin credit card method, Stock cooler ))
4 SATA HDD
EVGA NVIDIA 550TI
4gb Ram
600W PSU Xion
Windows 7

All clocks are stock. I know its not the best or latest but its all i can afford.
Any more information you want/need just ask!

Thank you so much for taking a look at my problem guys and gals!

Its usually because your cpu is over heating.

Take the cooler off, clean it, clean off the old thermal paste from the cooler and cpu with isopropyl alcohol, put a peas size drop of Arctic Circle paste on the cpu then re-assemble to cooler back on.

What make and model power supply have you got?

What is an XFX 680i LT SLI?

Sorry about that, updated the post. it is a 600W Xion, and the xfx is my motherboard

Make sure your cpu fan is above 1000rpm.

If you take a look at - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-su... you can see that Xion is in Tier Five - Replace immediately.

If cleaning and reseating the cooler doesn't help, the problem can be cause by too high Vcore on the cpu that also results in high temps.

High Vcore can be caused by bad overclocking, poor motherboard voltage control or poor power supply voltages.

Can you download and run HWInfo - Sensors and post the results - 3 screenshots on TinyPic or similar? They will show Vcore and power supply voltages.

Your mobo is unusual and old - http://www.nvidia.com/object/designed_by_nvidia_680i_lt...

Here you go! Im truly beginning to think it may be reporting cpu temp wrong. Its only a stock cooler, then again i have a house fan sitting next to the case.

As far as old unusual parts.. Yeah, i know, but sadly, i just don't have the funds to get a new pc.. Life hit the fan >.< Wish i could get newer parts.

psu - no 12v readings (strange), 3.3v OK but 5v at 3.578 v - way too low REPLACE YOUR PSU

What's also strange is that both cpu and gpu voltages were 1.1v and didn't change. I have a feeling the vrm (voltage control) on your motherboard is also stuffed.

cpu was at 102F/40C - OK

gpu was at 111f/45C - OK

Also, from a different program. Speedfan, a program ive used to monitor temps for years

These units haven't changed much in a very long time, so i kind of doubt that they are THE problem (( though they are clearly A problem ))

Sadly as mentioned above, i cant replace the parts.. out of work because heart problems and not getting much monetary help either

The I don't think there's much that can be done.

Try -

Diskcheck

Virus scan

Memtest

I just went into Bios to check my voltages there:

Cpu core: 1.06v
FSB: 1.19v
Mem: 1.80v
3.3: 3.28v
3.3dual: 3.28v
12v: 12.03v
5v: 5.06v
vbat: 3.01v

They seem OK

Did you 'Take the cooler off, clean it, clean off the old thermal paste from the cooler and cpu with isopropyl alcohol, put a peas size drop of Arctic Circle paste on the cpu then re-assemble to cooler back on.'?

Im about too, I am always hesitant to try such as first resort. Running virus scan as we speak. Diskcheck came out OK, memtest is fine.

If nothing in the virus then i will re-paste it. never used the pea method. dont spread, let HS do it right?
