I have as yet an unused top end Z87 mobo and read that it can be updated to run the new Devils Canyon i4790k chip. Can any of the experts out there advise me if this practical and how , please.

Your motherboard will not run the Devils Canyon chip, as your motherboard is a z87 while the 4790k is a z97 chip
