I would like to use 2x16 gb ram with my Asus p9x79 pro motherboard. However, there are no compatible 16gb ram listed in the qvl. Has anyone used 16 GB in one slot on p9x79 pro? Which ram did you use?

If you do that, your going to have issues, period.

Keep it to MAX 8GB per slot, That board along with most of the LGA 2011 range is also like this, max of 8GB per slot. It won;t work with 16GB modules.

"Support for up to 64GB of system memory with an 8-DIMM design" 8x8 = 64GB, this does not mean 4x16=64, though it does, it means total per max amount of memory per slot.

Just trying to say in a nice way (though serious), not to do it.

Hey.
I would rather advise, to use 4 sticks of RAM, instead of 2.
Since x79 has Quad Channel Memory Architecture, and therefore you would have better RAM performance.
If you would use 4 RAM slots instead of 2.

If your going for 16GB RAM, then use four 4GB sticks.

4x8GB sticks is a better alternative, otherwise he will fill up all 8 slots, as the OP wants 2x16Gb sticks.

For the OP;

LGA 2011 boards like that one run in quad channel memory, making 4 sticks the best way to go.

It is better alternative. I just rather wanted to mention the Quad Channel Memory.
