Recently the power button on my PC case has not been working, it sometimes(not often) will turn on the PC but usually it does nothing. i dont mash the button or slam it in but i do make sure its pressed when i try and its been working less and less often each. the only way to turn on the PC when it is off is to press the power button on the case and then turn the PSU power switch off - wait a few seconds - and then turn the PSU power switch back on, which does nothing once, nit after switching it off/on again squickly a second time, this would then power on the rest of the PC as if nothing had happened. I would normally assume it was the case power button that was faulty but when trying the PSU power switch without hitting the case button first does nothing to turn on the PC.

not an old case, a year old at the most, as are all of the other parts, the main thing im worried about isnt the case button, its the fact that im using the psu power switch to turn on the pc from off, which strikes me as something that button wasnt intended for, could this damage the psu/pc in any way while i wait for a new button/case? if that is what turns out to be the problem.

also the psu button doesnt work to turn on the pc unless the pc case button is pressed first, almost like it just needs a jump start.

posted the same problem on gametrailers, got no fix, i had tried to isolate the problem by starting the PC without the case as seen here...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4FOBL1c3pA

it did not work.

also, this same problem happened to my last pc(video fix didnt work then either), it was 4-5 years old though so i didnt think much of it, with this pc being less than a year old it scares me because eventually my old pc just stopped powering on all together.

if you say the problem is likely the psu, is using the psu power switch as an on/off button going to make it worse? otherwise my pc will just have to stay on for a while...

I'd have a look at the psu and try testing it. I think you can by shorting out the case switch connections on the motherboard. If the pc doesn't start up every time tyou turn the psu on then its either a case switch problem or a motherboard problem.

But I'd also test the case switch. By removing the leads on the motherboard and putting a multimeter across the leads to see if its get close to zero ohms when you push the case switch on.

ill test the pc case button and psu when able, one more thing though.

the strange part to me is that using the psu power switch to turn on the pc from off by itself does nothing, it only works when i press the pc case power button first, and then switch the psu power off/on, which then powers on the pc. its almost as if it needs to register the pc power button press first and then have the psu power switch jumpstart the system into booting up.

would this mean its more likely the mobo than the psu/case?
