I have a Palit GTX 460 Smart Edition video card.
The problem with it is that when i play games it would start artifacting or the nvidia driver would crash.
Usually in games the artifacts would appear and after a few seconds they would dissappear and work normal again. It only artifacted once in the bios while booting windows but after it booted up the graphics were normal again, and also sometimes in games it would artifact and freeze and the computer would restart.
System:
AMD FX 6300 Black Edition 3.5 GHZ
Gigabyte 970A-DS3 motherboard
Sirtec High Power Element Bronze PSU (i tested the video card with another PSU so it can't be that)
I had this card for 6 months. Could this be a chipset issue as i read on the internet or the video card is starting to fail? Temps go max at 72C

Chech your GPU temp. Probably the thermalpaste on GPU dry and needs repleacing.

So probably you need to buy good new thermalpaste. Carefully remove all cooling form card, clean the GPU with isopropanol alcochol, put on new thermalpaste, install the cooling fans etc... then your gtx will run again :)

Thanks for all your replies I changed the thermal paste and put some AC 5 on it and tested it on a intel system and now it artifacts even on windows it does not even have colours anymore . I think the card is dead .

I know that generation like the back of my hand and hate to break the news to you but your card is bricked. You are lucky that it lasted as long as it did considering how cheaply that it was built. The company that made the card skimped out on one essential part that was needed for the power VRM phases (mosfets) and so many died years ago. The cooling overall wasn't that great and the GTX500 series wasn't much better in that regard so in short you need a new card.
