I have noticed that my temps while gaming on Battlefield 4 vary from 74-78C.
I am using Asus HD7870. I know the stock cooler does not have a backplate and to avoid hassle when fitting a new cooler, I have found another cooler which also uses push pins like the Intel.

Here:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121238549309?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Am I right in thinking this will fit in just like stock Intel cooler and will it provide better cooling?
I am on Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H motherboard.
Thanks.

Well the CPU was fitted for me by a professional company so I have no reason to doubt they know what they're doing.
Also, I heard Haswells DO run hot and have seen on the web many instances of i7 4770 (non-K and K) going to 78C while gaming.

I just wanted to hear from anyone who has used the Arctic Cooling unit I linked as I don't want the hassle of fitting water cooling or dismantling the PC to fit a cooler like Hyper Evo 212.

I've got that one. It's not much better than the stock cooler. Just quieter. Review

The Zalman CNPS5X Performa is cheap and uses push pins. I have it too.

Wow thanks for the heads up cos I really want cooling efficiency, not bothered about noise.

Get Hyper 212 EVO, though check if it would fit in your case beforehand, or some closed-completed water-cooling unit.
You could see difference of even up to 20 degrees Celsius compared to your current temp.
I personally got Hyper 212 EVO.
I run my 4770k at max 55 C degrees (upper limit) and usually between 50-53 C degrees across all cores (most are even lower) when gaming or other CPU intensive task (usually CPU usage 50%-80%).
Running your CPU at lower temperatures over time, help preserve its life-spawn.

You also want good air-flow in your case, cause heat-sinks are all about spreading out the heat over their surface. So that air-flow can cool it down.

Of course I'm well aware of that. I applied thermal paste to a Core 2 Quad Q6700 when I bought that from eBay and I still have some left.
