Hi,

Just wondering if you guys could check this build. My budget is £450-£500 without monitor or OS. It's geared towards Company of Heroes 2, so I've picked up a pretty good CPU as I believe rts games are cpu intensive right? I'd still like to be able to play other games though, namely World of Tanks, Bioshock, Borderlands. Any advice on size of monitor? I'll just get a second hand one off ebay, but definitely would like 1080p. ps Should I get a cooler to encourage the cpu to go into turbo boost mode?

CPU Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core £137.99
Motherboard MSI H81M-E33 Micro ATX LGA1150 £32.99
Memory Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £58.43
Storage Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM £33.54
Video Card Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X £129.00
Case Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower £31.44
Power Supply EVGA 500W ATX12V / EPS12V £36.99
Optical Drive Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer £10.84
Wired Network Adapter TP-Link TG-3468 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 £5.98

Total: £477.20

thanks very much in advance for replies!!

I love the cpu pick, and that is an awesome case. I do NOT like that motherboard though. You should get at least a B85 chipset at minimum but if you want to be a little more future proof, get a H97 motherboard and it will support the next gen cpus. Do you really NEED a disc drive? You could remove it for extra money. That psu is fine as long as it is the 80+ Bronze model.

Can you go over by £3? I got a Haswell refresh chip and H97 motherboard, 1TB hard drive, and the better EVGA psu. Why do you need a wired network adapter? I still say remove the disc drive unless you know you need it.

Thanks a lot for the swift response mate - didnt realise the better i5 4590 was exactly the same price!

I just thought i needed a wireless card to get internet, but have just realised that comes with the mobo right?

I don't really plan to upgrade in the near future to be honest - if I can save on a mobo by getting a non-future proof one I think that would be fine. What exactly do I get by paying more for the B85 or H97 mobo?

I need a disk drive for watching movies.

Have you any thoughts on what sized monitor I should go for (in 1080p)?

Cheers

Most motherboards do not come with wifi, but just about every one of them come with an ethernet port. If you have a wireless router and want your PC to have wireless internet, then you will need to add a wireless adapter. You were adding a wired adapter that you would not need for sure.

A B85 motherboard would be plenty good enough. I have used an i5 4570 on a B85 a few times now.

Do you not have a tv you could hook it up to? You can find a good 1080p monitor in the 21-24" range for around £100

Ok thanks but how is a B85 better than a H81? Does it noticeably increase performance?

No TV unfortunately - i'll check out monitors in that range then

The H81 is the base budget motherboard line. The B85 offers a lot more features, and especially a lot more sata III and USB 3.0 ports. The price difference between the two is minimal.

Ok but is it worth getting more USB 3.0 ports when my case only has one? http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-tower/n200/
