I've bought a few of the new parts I need for my computer upgrade and I am now weighing up all my options for a power supply, recently I have been looking on scan.co.uk as they have a few good PSU models at knock down prices as they are "factory refurbished".

Does anyone have experience with refurbished power supplies, from scan or other stores? and are they worth the savings?

Don't skimp on the power supply. Thay is one of the components that if it fries it will likely take other components with it. It isn't worth the $25 to 50 in savings, if it costs you your motherboard

Thats what I was thinking but it says on their site that, as this is a corsiar psu, "All stock has been refurbished and tested by Corsair before shipping to SCAN."

In this case would the PSU not function as though it had been bought new as it has been refurbished and tested by the manufacturer. Also I thought its only the cheaper power supplies that take out other components if it dies.

NEVER buy ANY used computer part. I hope that's clear enough.

Hi - I have to throw my hat in the ring with the others. Altho there are components that I believe refurbs would be OK, I wouldn't risk it with a PSU. Almost certainly in your reference above with a refurb Corsair PSU being refurbed
by the mfg., I seriously doubt it. Corsair doesn't mfg PSU's so it's unlikely (possible tho) they refurbed it, and the economics suggest they didn't send it back to China, have it brought back to factory specs, shipped back to the UK,
and able to sell for very cheap.

In any event, it's the last component I would consider buying a refurb on.

You sir, just took the words right out of my mouth
Even though a CX500 sucks, I would gladly pay $30 because I know it's new and has warranty

I personally would not trust refurbished power supplies as they would pose a risk of blowing up your components or something similar along those lines.

You are not going to get anything cheaper then this;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-VP450P-450W-12cm-ATX2-3/d...

Antec 450W only £5.61!! Huge saving.

Over Current Protection (OCP)
Over Voltage Protection (OVP)
Short Circuit Protection (SCP)
Over Power Protection (OPP)

That is some good deal there.

Yup, take advantage of that! lol. Amazon prices fluctuate pretty fast and that'll most likely be gone sometime today.

I have that one in my budget build and it's damn quiet for the $25 I got it for :)

here's a review on it
