Hi guys,

I recently bought a new graphics card (and a psu and a case, for that matter). However, when I try to start up games now, I get various error messages.

Specs:
Processor: AMD fx-8320 8-core @ 3,5GHz
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Motherboard: MSI 760GA-P43
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x4GB 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-24)
Storage: Samsung 830 Series 128GB SSD (520r/320w)
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 7200rpm HDD
Graphics card: XFX R9 290 Double Dissapation Black Edition @ 980Mhz
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNova 1000 G2
Case: NZXT H440 White

If I try to start up Battlefield 4, after loading the level is gives me this error message: http://i.imgur.com/BNA26P0.png

If I try to start up Counter-Strike Global Offensive, it gives me this error right at the startup (before that I also see the mouse and the loading icon very big on a black screen and with a low resolution): http://i.imgur.com/fqBT0aj.png

When I try to play Terraria, I've got a massive amount of input lag and the framerate is also low.

In windows everything seems to be working normal, though it gives 1024x768 as the recommended resolution instead of 1080p.

When I open GPU-Z, it gives me this screen: http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/14/06/10/d86.png
Whereas it should be something like this (this is a reference card): http://img.videocardz.com/1/2013/10/R9-290-GPU-Z.jpg

What strikes me, is that the name of the 'card' in GPU-Z is "Microsoft Basic Display-Adapter" instead of "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series", which the error for CS:GO also says at 'DriverName'.

I already deleted everything related to AMD (drivers), put the card back in and reinstalled the driver, but nothing seems to work. I'm kind of at a loss here since I just bought the almost-flagship card of AMD and I can't even play games with it properly.

If anyone has any idea at all how to fix this or what causes it at all, I'd be very glad to hear it.

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure you have installed the drivers fully? Read the installation log after AMD drivers installer has finished to check.

I'm pretty sure I have. What should it say when it's not installed correctly then?

You could get AMD Display Driver Failed.

It should look similar to this:

My drivers are installed correctly. The driver doesn't seem to be the problem.

Your gpu card's BIOS may be corrupt. There should be a BIOS switch on the card. Switch to the other. They have identical factory BIOS.

Then try a reinstallation of your drivers.

Upgrading to Windows 8.1 solved my problem. The drivers I had installed weren't compatible with Windows 8. Thank you for helping anyway!

14.4 should be still windows 8 compatible.
Probably Microsoft done something to force Window 8.1
