Hello, I'm looking to buy a new PSU as I'm 100% sure mine is on it's way out.

This caught my eye due to the low price tag: http://www.ebuyer.com/630119-evga-500w-80-power-supply-3-year-warranty-100-w1-0500-kr

I know the old saying, a cheap power supply is not worth it, but considering it's from EVGA, it must be of some value.

I'll be gaming for considering lengths of time and my build will consist of a Phenom II X4 925 + R9 270X. Will this PSu be enough for this or will the White power rating come back to bite me in the a**?

If so would this PSU be able to power my current setup? Phenom II X4 925 + 7770?

Furthermore is it true a PSU going bang can also take out your CPU/Mobo/GPU? Or is that a Myth? I ask because it has a 3 year warranty which is nice, but isn't nice if it takes my mobo/CPU out too.

Cheers,

most EVGA PSUs arent that good.

the one you linked is about as good as a cx series corsair

only their supernova series is reputable.....

and 500w will also be a bit of a stretch for a phenom and an r9 270x.

but for the 7770 build it will do well.

Hi - as baba said EVGA has some good PSU's, however, that unit isn't one of the ones I'd qualify as good. The OEM for it is HEC, and as a general rule of thumb that's an OEM to avoid.

Also, a good quality modern design 500w PSU is plenty for a system with one R9 270x.

Can you stretch a bit? A much better choice is;

Yes, a PSU can take other components with it when it fails. Decent quality modern design PSU's will have
protection features that should shut the unit down before that occurs. No name and/or inferior built
units will lack some or most of those protection features..

Haha I picked out this PSu about 2 days ago where it was £30, and the bronze was £50, so I should have probably checked again , no brainer for £5 extra.

If the White is mediocre/not good, and equivalent to the CX Series Corsair, What does that mean the CX Series Corsair is like? Reason I ask is I was led to believe the CX Series Corsair are pretty solid for around £50 - £60.

I know I'm going on abit lol, I really appreciate the help so far but I have just 2 more questions:

How quiet is the XFX PSU's? The Corsair RM series I have heard are very quiet, which is why I ask.

Secondly if the RM series is a Gold PSU, why is it so inferior to the XFX?

And errr Where can I buy HX series PSU's? Amazon don't seem to have them and if they do, they're off dodgy people at ridiculous prices.

Also would you buy a Refurbished PSU? (manufacturer) Scan are selling loads of corsair ones.

Also what is the GS series like?

Ah okay Thanks so much for your help.

You know I've always said the best things are made in Japan. XFX PSU's The Nissan Skyline GTR. Just a few of many.

Cheers mate haha.
