So I am wondering if I have a faulty gpu, I have been running it for less than a week and on several occasions while playing bf4 it ranges from mid 80'S to low 90's. All other games it's mid 70's to low 80's idles at around 30. 5 case fans, including my gen 1 corsair liquid cpu cooler. I have smelled burning plastic twice when I manually set fan speeds to 100% in gpu. Using Antec 750w high current gamer psu. I know the 290x has a issue with the thermal compound, is that my issue here? Thanks in advance, btw nothing is overclocked.

It shouldn't be running that high. Have you checked the card's fan settings? Are the fans runningon the card? Are your other case setings normal?

Yeah the cards RPMs under load were around 2400, at idle they were at 1100-1400, when I used MSI afterburner at set the fans too 100% is when I smelled the burning plastic smell, is that just a break in smell?

No something is wrong with the card if you are smelling burning/ melting plastic.
