Hey Guys...

I've been using the same system for the last 2 years now and have never had a single issue. All of the sudden yesterday while playing Tera my system shut down without any warning. I started to monitor my hardware to try and gauge the issue and see that my GPU which idles at 60C was spiking to nearly 100C after about 30-45mins of gameplay. My CPU is at 36C, MOBO at 27C, and HD at 29C. The ambient temperature in my house is 72 F, I've removed the side panel, there seem to be no airflow issues, I cleaned out both the tower thoroughly and removed the GPU and gave that a thorough cleaning as well. Fan speed was set at max earlier and I was still having the same overheating issue that I've never had before.

Also no part of the system is being or has ever been overclocked.

Here are the specs on the system:

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6870
Case: HAF Cooler Master 912
CPU: i5 2500k 3.3GHz
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 650W
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB 240-Pin DDR3

I can't figure out for the life of me why this is suddenly occurring.

Is the GPU fan spinning? Is it possible that the heatsink has come loose or needs new thermal paste?

Fan is spinning and has been spinning at 100%. Right now when I'm not doing anything other than watching youtube videos GPU is at 62C, about 30-45 mins into a game it steadily climbs towards the 100C mark. Can't imagine why the system would randomly need new thermal paste, but I can look into that.

You said you've had the rig a couple of years, paste does dry out over time sometimes, and high temps speed this up. dry paste hampers the ability to transfer heat effectively.

i'll take a look and see if dry paste is the issue and reapply if needed.

same problem here all of a sudden gpu in desktop watching movies is at 60ÂșC and the gpu usage is at 1%
the only thin i can possibly think before this all starts i installed the lastests drives of amd for the card but could be a coincidence

to battle this issue i had to low the default clock and put the fans working a bit faster
i had no issue before all started arround jully and the pc didnt simple crash, a blue screen will pop-up with a huge error message

before i normally used the fan at 45% playing grid auto sport after that 1 min in game blue screen
