Hello All, I am not experienced with configuring servers and storage arrays so I figure someone here can tell me if this will work or if it is an absurd idea. I may be given an IBM DS 3200 storage array. It has 12x SAS HDDs and 2x controllers with 2x SAS ports on the back. With it will be 2 SAS cables and a PCI-E SAS card with a single SAS interface to connect to the array.

I will be using this for a personal storage array. Is this something that Windows 7 can easily recognize and manage? IBM has software for it but I believe it came out before Windows 7 and is intended for a management server for the array. Considering the array is a dual controller, do I have to connect both SAS cables to the PC, requiring a 2nd PCIe SAS card? Any thoughts will be helpful as this is new territory for me.

I know I did this with an old HP Scsi array and a extended PCI card for a server, and I was able to get my computer to see all 10 drives in the array in disk management. It should work you might have to find drivers for the card, and see if the card has built in Raid and if you will be doing any raid. As for the dual controllers it is just for redundancy you should be able to use the array with just the one hookup.
