I just purchased an Asus Q550LF laptop from BestBuy that has a touchscreen that supports 1920x1080 resolution. Using the control panel I can set and verify all but the 1920x1080 resolution. If I set it to the second highest resolution, 1680x1050, I can verify it with multiple pixel ruler applications and by displaying images of a known size at 1:1. However, when I set it to 1920x1080 I get approx: 1533x862. I have updated the graphics drivers, showed the salesman, talked to Asus, to no avail so far. In the store I noticed a DELL doing the same thing but a Sony showing full 1920x1080. I can plug in an external monitor and get full 1920x1080.

Any and all insights greatly appreciated!

if windows says 1920x1080 then that's what is being displayed, how are you using 'pixel rulers' to determine size?

How did you figure it 1533x862? are you using the desktop background or something?

I am checking the resolution two ways. One is using pixel ruler applications such as "Pixel Ruler" and "Pixel Ruler 3". The other is displaying an image of a known size on the screen at true size (1:1). Also, when I set it to 1680x1050, then change to 1920x1080 I can see the screen icons stretch bigger. They should be getting smaller.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution
That sound like 1536 x 864

under "In the Screen Resolution screen choose the Make text and other… line."
It might be set at 125%

rgd1101: Your reference is for scaling the font in applications, such as chrome and Explorer, not the screen resolution.

13thmonkey: It is strange, this model is only sold by BestBuy and as far as I can tell is the same as N550LF on the Asus site, "15.6" 16:9 HD (1366x768)/IPS FHD (1920x1080) anti-glare "

ok, having those two resolutions is a big red flag to me, I just don't think that the variant you have is 1080p and it is scaling so that it can display 1080p images but downsized into 1366x768.

rgd101: Yes I tried it before and after you told me. It does just what it is suppose to do, scale the fonts inside windows explorer and other applications such that their windows can be smaller and hold the same content. However, it does not seem to affect the screen resolution underneath the application.

13thmonkey: why do two resolutions raise a red flag? The device supports 12 different resolutions and 1920x1080 is the recommended one.

the icon didn't go smaller, after you change it to 100%? and did you rerun the pixel test?

rgd1101,
I appreciate your persistence. I did try it again and it did change the screen resolution, not the apps only. I really thought I had tested this carefully but apparently not. Kudos to you! I give it up to rgd1101!
