Hello everyone,

I'my having a problem that has completely stumped me; maybe one of you can help. I'm building a new system and have hit a dead end. For the life of me, I can't get the motherboard to power up.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3. I have tried it with two power supplies which were 1000 volt and 750 volt, respectivly. The power supply Im trying to install is a Corsair cx750. Both the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors are fully seated. I have tried it with the cpu and ram installed and without. I know both power supplies are working property because they power up my old motherboard just fine.

All the motherboard standoffs are in the correct configuration and there is ample separation between the board and the case, so I'm fairly certain it is not shorting out on the case.

Still when I plug in the power supply and flip it on, nothing. Not even the fan on the power supply moves (which it does when using a power supply tester).

At first i thought i just received a doa motherboard, which is why I returned it to frys. This is the second motherboard I have tried with the exact same results.

I'm stumped!

I suppose the PSU tester connects to the 24 pin connector, So this tells me power is either going to ground or the motherboard is not powering up...

1. Have you double checked the Front Panel connections? check the manual on page 25 to ID the two power switch pins and jump them with a small screwdriver, paper clip, etc.

2. Also try breadboarding the motherboard just in case power is going to ground.

I tried everything on that list, and still nothing...

The front panel connectors are clearly labeled and connected properly, so that's not the problem. I also tried it outside the case and had the exact same results (none).

Let there be light! I went through both of your checklists again, unplugging and plugging everything back in, and something worked! I'm not sure what it was, but the bitch is firing up!

All is not well though... all it is doing is attempting to boot, says loading windows, and then restarts. I'm going to search around the forums for a while and if I can't get it solved, make a new post about this problem. Thank you both for your help!

Well that's normal for electronics... all they need sometimes is that!... unplugging and plugging back on. The same may be going on with the hard drive... press on the power HD connector and on both ends of the data cable. If nothing yet, run a Startup Repair with the installation disk... that should make Windows load. And repeat the repair if the first time doesn't work.
