Good day,

I installed an old IDE hard drive on a friend's PC so he can install linux on it. I managed to install Mageia 4 (64bits) on the hard drive, no problem so far. However, when I try to boot on the IDE, the PC comes up with a mere ''Read error'' message. Is the hard drive broken? I'm not sure because I successfully installed an OS on it. (and had to format it before, too)

Also, I know this might be the problem, but I installed the Linux boot system on the IDE. I didn't know where to install it, with all that bunch of partition coming from both hard drives. By the way, the first hard drive is a SATA and yes the second one (IDE) has been set to slave.

A big thanks to anyone who allow me to introduce someone else to Linux!

You have just one IDE drive and you have configured it as a slave? That's wrong; it should be configured as a master.
