Hey guys, I have a Laptop with Windows XP Professional, A few minutes ago when I came to Shut down the computer I noticed that there is a Windows Update, It's just did a new windows XP update, and since I know that the support for windows XP has ended I'm a little bit afraid from this update.
At the system restore point it says Software distribution service 3.0

What should I do? Should I system restore my Laptop?

Thanks for the help.

You should upgrade to an OS that isnt 13 years old or however old XP is. Sure it was great in its time and some things may not run on the new OS's, but for gods sake, and your own personal peace of mind, upgrade.

There was a one off update for win xp issued for the heartbleed bug I think. Don't expect any more. Upgrade for your own security.

One main problem, this computer runs my job, most of the applications there does not support any other windows, most of my works are on this computer and at a middle of project it's quite a problem for me to stop everything and reinstall everything on a new windows and I'm well know when I tried some of those programs are not working properly on the newer windows, I might upgrate my windows at someday, but for now it isn't possible for me.

System restore would uninstall the update?

Any other recommendations?

The end date for XP has been known for quite a long time.

It wouldn't uninstall it, it might restore it to a point where it wasnt yet installed. But why on earth would you want to do that?

Yes, upgrade. You've had 5 years to plan it. I wouldn't have that machine connected to the internet anymore, that's my advice.

Hi,
There's some confusion over what loss of support for XP means.

When Microsoft finds issues with XP that can be exploited, they would normally fix the code to prevent a particular hack from being effective.

Having an anti-virus solution is good, and meant primarily to help prevent getting viruses/malware on your system in the first place but they aren't perfect. So, what we'll continue to see going forward is malware targetting XP to take advantage of the exploits that are no longer being fixed.

*So anti-virus solutions are NOT a fix for the lack of XP support.

Microsoft Updates for XP:
I'm not certain, but it's possible you'll still get XP updates. You won't get patches to fix code that can be exploited but there are other updates you might get.

If you have micosoft office set to auto update, it will still continue to receive updates via windows updates.
