So I built my PC over christmas, all but a GPU, and have been playing games on integrated graphics. I was thinking about buying a R9 290 TriX, as they have them on amazon for £280 atm, but I don't know if any new ones are coming out soon, or if now is a good time to buy or anything.

Thoughts?

If you keep waiting for something new, you'll always be waiting. If integrated graphics aren't cutting for you, get the card, if you're fine with what you have then wait. I'd personally get the card, it's a great deal.

If you have been playing games with integrated graphics for the past 6 months, why are you interested in an enthusiast level GPU? Are you buying more demanding games now?

If you can play your games on the integrated controller, they probably won't be £280 more fun. What games are you playing?

Now is a good time to buy the R9 290 it a beast card.
Plus the 290 can overclock to 290x level.

Depends if you have a very good powersupply. For starters, go for 280X for single monitor use. You can buy a R9 290 but you need atleast a good 600w for that. since it consumes 300w-350w I think on gpu alone.

What's the resolution of your monitor? and what's your powersupply?

At the moment, I've got a 768p Benq monitor (G950 I think?), And that's the only reason I'm able to play games like BF3 etc. on low settings. I've also got a CX600M. I earned most of the money working pretty much all of last summer after GCSEs, and some of this year, and have about £600 left to spend. So I was also thinking about buying a 120Hz monitor.

At 768p you don't really need a 290 a 280x or even a 280 should work fine.
The cx600m should work fine I just won't be doing any super high overclock.

This is one of the best ways to sum it up!,I suggest change a gpu when you see that you do not get the Performence you wanted in a LARGE SCALE,think about what you do on your PC and which games you play, then compare it with what the tri x gives you and what your current card gives!

With your budget of £600, you can get that 290 and still have £320 left over to get a nice 24" 1080p 120hz monitor and have the horsepower to set everything to ultra.
