Hi all,

I am curious as to know which and what ways are best to upgrade from my XFX HD7870 system in the future, both in investment and longevity. Essentially, I figure I can either purchase another identical card and run in crossfire, or I can sell this one and buy two newer cards and run in crossfire, or buy a single card of dual value and performance. I suppose the problem with buying another 7870 is that they're a bit outdated and wouldn't be as future-proof.

Any suggestions?

ASUS M5A99X Evo PRO 2.0
FX-6350
XFX HD7870 Double D(GHz Edition)
XFX Pro 650W
16GB Corsair RAM

Thanks!

you may very well be surprised of the crossfire performance of the 7870 and can still be very competitive when overclocked but as there is most likely some pretty good gaming use on your current card.

From a future proofing point of view and Crossfire in mind i would recommend a r9 280.

Assuming I can sell my 7870, I could go with getting something in the $260-280 price range.

Getting a single R9 280x seems like the right way to go, because it would give me a little bit more immediate headroom, and as you said, would be a good idea to use in Crossfire in the future as an even bigger upgrade.
