Is it possible that my GPU and my CPU compatability could be causing my computer to get the blue screen of death?

Im running:

CPU:AMD Athlon 64 2x dual core 4600
GPU: Nvidea GeForce 9600

My computer doesnt overheat but is custom made and gets the blue screen of death seemingly randomly. Is it a compatability issue with the units or could it even involve the motherboard? Please help!

Your CPU and GPU don't have "compatibility" that you need to worry about. Your problem is likely a failing component, none of those parts are new, they are all ~8 years old so odds are something is dying.

What would cause the screen to happen specifically? Just that a component suddenly stops working correctly?

Also the GPU isnt that bad is it? My comp also cannot detect where the cause for the blue screen originated.

Your computer can rarely detect the cause of a BSOD, if it knew why it happened it would have caught it and recovered gracefully.

Open up your system and take a look at the capacitors on the motherboard, you may have some failing caps that just can't keep up anymore, you are likely very close to being stable but occasionally can't quite make it so teh system hiccups and crashes. The wikipedia article on cap plague has good pictures of bad capacitors
