Hey all,

I had a quick question about the GTX 860M mobile GPU. Would it be effective in a model rendering application (Using things like SolidWorks, Cinema 4D, Autodesk, etc.)?

Thanks!

I would say yes, more effective than anything else you can get in the laptop space anyway (excluding 880m and 870m)

the new architecture did wonders for Nvidia's new mobile chips, in a nutshell it has better shader and bandwidth optimization and would be great (compared to older 700 series Kepler based chips) in model rendering, plus I think Autodesk, among other apps, has CUDA acceleration support so that's a plus

there are still stronger chips out there in terms of raw power, such as the 780M and 680M, but that price range goes far beyond the 860M anyway.

generally, desktops would be much better for modeling due to higher shader counts, higher core clocks, and bigger bandwidth, but if you need to take your work on the go then laptops are fine.
