Hello guys!

So about a month ago I bought an R9 290x. I had it for about 3 days when all of the sudden I turn on my pc and hear a loud beep and start smelling smoke. I replaced the card with 2 7970s and had them for about 3days when the first card failed. No smoking or beeping or anything. Just stopped displaying. The second works just fine.

I purchased another 7970 but before I install it I wish to know why this keeps happeneing. Do I just have bad luck? Or could it be that power supply cable that's faulty. Or maybe the pcie slot is killing the cards.

The power supply I am using is a Silverstone Strider Evolution 1000w Gold. My motherboard is an Asus Rampage IV Formula.

Also prior to all of this I owed a GTX 780 and it ran for months without problems. I really haven't got a clue what to think. So far am having very bad expirence with AMD however.

Solution
Sounds like the PSU needs RMA. Even the good ones can go bad. All it takes is one leaky capacitor to stop filtering ripple and wreak havoc on the 12V rail feeding the GPU.
